Points North

Creative Design & Southern Hospitality

on Mar 24, 2013 in Travel

“I have seen passion and compassion from strangers who aren’t so strange at all.” These are the words that passed through my mind when I shared a drink with a fellow entrepreneur and business owner residing in Atlanta.

We sat at News Cafe in Little Five Points, with the daylight turning into night and the street lamps lighting the way. There are passionate people everywhere, once you get to know them. They are working towards their goals just like you and me, they have dreams of what they hope to obtain or change, and they are just as passionate as ever. I loved it.

Atlanta is a different city than what I expected. The temperature was the first hint, but I admit I was indeed spoiled by the consistent 80+ degree days of South Florida. But once I found my place it was very easy to get to where I needed to be, as well as step in time. Some of my favorite highlights were working out of 200 Office (a very stylish and colorful coworking office in downtown Atlanta), doing volunteer work at Davidson Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve (I’m always happy to give back to the community), enjoying time in the Georgia Aquarium and Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and attending networking events with the Atlanta Web Design Group.

THE WRAP UP:

Favorite Neighborhoods: Midtown, Little Five Fingers (nice local shops and restaurants)
Favorite Attractions: Georgia Aquarium, Atlanta Botanical Gardens
Favorite Place to Work: 200 Office, Starbucks
For Volunteer Work: Check out opportunities through Hands on Atlanta
For Social Life: Plug in “Atlanta” into Meetup.com and pick your fancy

I’m actually writing to you from Baltimore, where I’m spending a few days catching up with current clients and talking with new ones, making waves at events (such as Discover Baltimore and B’More Creatives Wine & Paint Night), and spending time with friends before taking off again. My next destination is (… wait for it …) New Orleans.

I look forward to sharing what I find in New Orleans, and also to using the world around me to inspire the design and creative projects produced through JWatson Creative. Follow my journey by connecting with me on Twitter, and Facebook.
